Evolution and Natural Selection are not always easily understood. In this 20 slide PowerPoint, the basic concepts of Natural Selection are provided.

Included are a basic scientific vocabulary to help students navigate through this unit, and checks for understanding. Similar to Darwin's Finches, the Hawaiian Honey Creepers are used as an example of speciation due to reproductive isolation. It links beak specialization with reproductive isolation, available food, and changes in the environment.

This engaging PowerPoint with images, sounds, and a summary, also includes two pages of notes for students and a key for teachers. The notes taken from the PowerPoint provide a resource for students to apply what has been covered as a formative assessment at the end of their notes.
Based to address standards: Unity and Diversity Life Science SC.7.5.4 Analyze how organisms' body structures contribute to their ability to survive and reproduce; SC.7.5.6 Explain why variation(s) in a species' gene pool contributes to its survival in a constantly changing environment.

This PP was originally designed for 10-12 grades and edited to be grade level 5-8. It is easily adaptable to other grade levels.

I hope you enjoy this PP as much as my students and I have.
