I teach intensive reading at a high school in Florida. My students are 10th and 11th graders who have not passed the reading FCAT yet. In order to provide them with quality, relevant reading practice, I often use articles from The New York Times Learning Network (www.nytimes.com/learning).

This lesson contains six multiple-choice questions and two Read-Think-Explain questions about the article “Are Your Jeans Sagging? Go Directly to Jail.”

Thanks for checking out my lesson. If you do decide to buy, please leave feedback and let me know what you thought about the lesson. I’m always looking for ways to improve and would like to know how the lesson worked for you.

Sincerely,
Julie Conlon

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the last 19 years, I have taught 7th grade through junior college English and reading and I am currently working as the literacy coach in a high school. The lesson plans that I share here could come from any of those grade levels and cover a variety of subject areas. With the push toward the Common Core, I have been focusing on helping the teachers at my school incorporate more reading, writing, and higher-order thinking into their lesson plans. I am reworking my TpT profile/lessons to align with this goal also. Thus, the creation of HOT Shot: Soar into the Common Core with Higher Order Thinking. However, despite the catchy-logo/title, I am now (and always will be) a teacher first! I assure you that the lessons you're purchasing on this site are lessons I have used successfully with students. I hope that your students will get as much out of the lessons as mine do.
