Interpreting the Remainder is not an easy concept to teach...or to learn! That is why I created this handout and these three posters that cover the three choices for dealing with remainders (Round it, Drop it, Share it).

My only suggestion is that you add another option - the remainder is the answer. For example, in a problem like: You have to make copies of a 31 page report. If you have a ream of paper (500 sheets), how many sheets will you have left when you are finished. This type of problem shows up on state tests!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching.
