I'm excited about using this activity this week. We are in the heart of our measuring unit with inches and feet. My only question is the reasoning behind giving the answer in the question? I can see making it self-checking with an answer card perhaps, or the answer to be printed on the back. But I don't see what makes the children think about the question if they know the answer is underlined, as given in the directions to the game. I'm sure you thought this through and I'm missing something.

When two partners are playing together they read the card to the person who has to answer. So if you and I were playing together, I would pick up the card, ask you the question. Then when you answer, I would know if you got it right or wrong by looking at the card and seeing which answer is underlined. The kids won't read the card themselves when it's their turn. Does that make sense?
I could make another version w/no underlined words. I just thought it would be easier this way than having the kids look at an answer key or having to write the answers on the back of each card :)

Thanks for explaining. I knew I missed something. You are totally right. It is easier and one less piece for the kids to keep up with. I was thinking the student who's turn it was would simply read their own card. Clever!
