Here are 20 fun task cards to use during election season, before Presidents Day, or any time you are studying the presidents. Each card includes an interesting presidential fact along with a higher-level thinking task. The dates that each president served are also included in parentheses. These cards will work well as extra enrichment for fast finishers or at a center. Many of the cards would also work as discussion prompts in small groups.

Each card is numbered so students can easily track which cards they have completed. These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Another option is to print on card stock.

Hi Rachel,

I just wanted to let you know that I noticed your misspelling of Barack on card #20 (as marikirst mentioned). I am working on pairing some of the task cards with visuals or some basic facts that will help them answer the questions a bit easier. I think the kids are going to have a blast with it since we've just read So You Want to be President? !

I am just wondering how you pick what grade levels your task cards are for. They look great!

Depends on the set. Sometimes I create a set for a specific standard, so the grade level is defined. Sometimes I check CCSS to see what they say after I have made a set. Sometimes I ask my facebook followers what they think, and of course, I use my own judgement from my years of teaching.

Just wanted to have you look at card #20. Barack Obama's name is misspelled (Barak). My kids are liking the cards. :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching. I also love knowing that my products help thousands of teachers and reach tens of thousands of students.
