Race to Write 12 is an engaging activity to use when you have a few minutes of extra time and want to stimulate creative thinking and foster collaboration. Students in teams work together to write 12 items on a given topic and complete the task before the other teams in the class.

I like this activity because it allows everyone to participate. The students work together. I may try this on Monday, first day back after winter break. This will be a fun way to get back in the swing of things.

My fifth grade special education class loved this activity. It really helped to develop their language skills. I was able to use the blank cards to make extra topics that they could relate too. They were begging to play the game another day. Thanks for another great activity.

I was so excited to see your 12-12-12 product. My 4th graders played your 11-11-11 game last year and loved it. I'm sure my 3rd graders will have as much fun. Kind of sad to think this is the last time in a loooooooooong time we will have the multiple date. We will definitely find the time to play on Wednesday!

Thanks so much for your comments! Even though it won't be a multiple date in the future, there's no reason why you can't play this game at any time, just for fun. I purposely did not include a reference to the special date in the directions.

There's a template at the back you can use to come up with easier topics. You could pair the students into partners rather than using this in groups, too.
