This is a packet of highly interactive and unique ideas for practicing the spelling of contractions. There are practice sheets using "Contraction Contraptions", modeled after function machines in math. There are directions for a game complete with introductory song lyrics to liven up review moments. You will also find a contraction sort to be completed with a partner. Students will identify contractions that are misspelled and share thoughts about what needs to change to build a contraction that is correctly spelled. Encouraging students to remember key rules and use visualization of the words as they have seen them in print will also promote stronger test taking skills and greater confidence in writing! This is my nineteenth year of teaching. I currently teach second grade. Much of what I believe about teaching evolved during a four year teaching opportunity that I had in a multi-age setting working with third, fourth, and fifth grade-age kids. I believe that truly exciting things happen for kids when we take off labels and limits and leave each to develop at his own individual pace.
