In this Passage Pass activity, students read five of the most important passages in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. For each passage, the student must record his or her thoughts and ideas on the situation, significance, and style; circle words; make connections; draw an image. He or she then passes to a neighbor so s/he can react to the first student's thoughts, and add his or her own ideas. This process is then repeated until all students have read each passage and the rest of the group's responses on that passage. Students really like this activity; they enjoy reading the different opinions on the significant passages and it is an excellent way for them to really understand the significance of each selection.
