Making connections to their own family history is a wonderful way for students to appreciate how times have changed. One of my students' favorite holiday activities is this holiday interview. I send it home early in the holiday season to allow students the opportunity to interview a family member over the holiday break. Students ask a few simple questions and take a picture to display with the completed interview text. I make these into a precious keepsake by mounting the interview and picture to a colorful background and laminating them. Many parents have told me over the years how much they enjoyed the project and how excited their children were to be the reporters. Once I receive all the completed interview and pictures, we create a display in the hallway to share our family traditions. This Word document can easily be modified to fit the needs of your individual classroom.

I have been teaching for 18 years at the same school in Mandeville, Louisiana. I taught 1st grade for six years and have taught 2nd grade for twelve years. I was the director of our summer camp for three years and have worked both before and after school programs. I also worked as the web manager and technology point person for our school.
