While Protestants referred to this as the Catholic Counter Reformation, seeing it as merely a reaction to their own movement, Catholics saw their Reformation as one of a long series of reform movements in the Church's history. After first looking at the Church's problems arising from the Protestant Reformation, this lesson then looks at the two levels of reform: the reforms of the Council of Trent, and the revitalization of its mission by the Jesuits. There is also a picture essay on the art of the Catholic Reformation, paying particular attention to the art of El Greco.

This is a self-contained PowerPoint that develops slide by slide while other notes for the students scroll down the side. It can be run as a timed presentation on its own, presented slide by slide for discussion, or integrated into your other lectures. There are also pictures with captions mixed in to illustrate the lesson and capture students’ interest. This packet also contains a student reading, flowchart, and the author’s own research notes which contain lots of details and interesting trivia to spice up your class.
NOTE: If this Powerpoint doesn’t come in the new color scheme, it comes with one slide that has the whole flowchart in the newer color scheme, if you want to convert the other slides.
