Students read An American Plague by Jim Murphy. This is a non-fiction portrayal of the yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia in 1793.
Students then read Fever: 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. This is a fictional portrayal of the yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia in 1793. Use this reading guide to compare and contrast the non-fictional and fictional renderings given in these two books. There are worksheets for each section of reading (usually 3-4 chapters) with various activities.
