Tracee,

I am really interested in this, but the "sample thumbnails" are so small it's hard to really see what you are offering. Is there a way to look at one of them so I can get a better idea of this product? Thanks!

If you download the sample preview, plus the free samples that are separate files, you'll see full-size example pages. Thanks.

Tracee, now follwing you! Many thanks for the way you engage learners and teachers! You have inspired me already in the short time I am here. Are there any communities of middle and secondary folks here who really value active learning and who support learning renewal. I'd love to be part of and to support such a community -- and sense it could be good for the field. But I am very new to TPT, and still learning the ropes myself. What do you think? Ellen

Hi Ellen! It is hard to find as much support and camaraderie with secondary teachers--not because we're not willing or wanting, but I think because there really is a lack of sites for us to join/hangout. I actually became closer to my fellow TpT secondary friends via Facebook. We created pages for our stores & started to talk to one another that way.

I also belong to the English Companion Ning. Though I tend to forget about the site, it is a nice place to share in similar frustrations, problems, solutions with one another.

I think we could also start a thread on the TpT seller's forum just for secondary people. Then we could post questions, etc. I bet Paul would give us our own category. :)

Welcome to TpT, Ellen, and thanks so much for your kind words!

I have downloaded and paid for this file/book. I will not allow me to print or convert to a word document.

Could you please let me know what I should do. I really needed to use one of the graphic organizers on my eval on MOnday.

Thank you for your purchase, CRodriguez108. I am so sorry you are having problems with the file. You should be able to print it; I just tested the file and it printed for me. If you continue to have problems, please email me and I can send you the file directly. hungergameslessons@gmail.com

However, the conversion to a Word file is against the copyright to alter the contents. Thanks for your understanding.

When I try to purchase this product two different sets of products show up in the cart. Has anyone else had this experience?

Hi Angela - I wonder if it is a glitch with the site. I know someone was able to purchase these earlier. Perhaps trying a different browser, clearing your cache, or quitting the browser & reloading it might help. I always try those things first because for some reason it doesn't like certain browsers at certain times. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out soon! If those things don't help, contact info@teacherspayteachers.com Thanks so much & so sorry you are having problems. -Tracee

hi Tracee I am a middle school special ed teacher- I have adapted and modified a lot of your lessons with my students. I was wondering if you have anything that would fit this Standard ---Compare and Contrast the structure of two texts and identify how it contributes to meaning and style. I have students that have significant disabilities ...it has been a difficult to round up materials for the Alternate Assessment...I wish I had discovered this site earlier in the year!!! BTW....your downloads are awesome...if you have board maker i can send you some of things I adapted for "Catching Fire" for my students! One more question- are you going to do a "Mockingjay" ? I hope to read with my kids in August! Thanks again Peg

Hi Peg,
Thanks so much for the kind words! Yes, I've created a unit for Mockingjay. Here is the digital download: <A HREF="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Mockingjay-Novel-Teaching-Unit-Tests-Questions-Projects-Vocab">Mockingjay Unit</A>

There are actually 5 graphic organizers for that standard alone in the packet. The students identify which works followed different structures (like compare/contrast, chronological order, cause/effect, etc.) then make a statement about how it effects the piece. Sometimes it helps to have them imagine if the story was told using a different structure--how would it be different?

I think with LD students using poetry is easier because the pieces are shorter. Have them compare the problem/solution structure of "If" by Rudyard Kipling to the compare/contrast style of Robert Frost's "Fire and Ice." Would either poem be as strong if structured differently? You could even have them try to rewrite them in a different structure to see if the meaning is still present/strong.

Does that make sense? Hope you have a great finish to the school year! :)
