These worksheets/quizzes test your students after you've taught metaphors, similes, personifications, alliteration, and onomatopoeia.

On the first sheet the students will need to determine what type of figurative language the first 10 questions are, and write two examples of figurative language on their own.

The second sheet asks students to differentiate between similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. They must find three of each.

Thank you for looking!

I thought another teacher could appreciate this -

I am so tired and worn out that I can't find the right button to leave feedback. Fortunately, you have written my quiz for tomorrow, and I will be going to sleep soon. Thank you so much!

You have listed "I am dying to meet him." as a metaphor. Wouldn't that be hyperbole? I just want to see if I am missing something I need to know.

Thank you!

You are right! When I created this unit, we did not cover hyperbole - so I wrongfully included that as a metaphor. I just updated the product and replaced that with "All the world is a stage." I think that better covers metaphor. Thank you for catching my error! Please download the new version at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Figurative-Language-Quiz-1

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Subject Area:

I have PreK-6th grade experience. I started my teaching adventure by accident. My major was business and electronic commerce, but I started working part-time at a preschool during college. That job made me realize what I was truly meant to do! This fall I will begin teaching 6th grade. However, in the past I have taught Kindergarten, Reading Recovery, Title I math and reading, 5th grade inclusion special education, and a multi-grade classroom of ELL students. I was also the overseer of my first school's special education department. I also teach Asian students during the evenings, weekends, and summer. Using Skype and other online tools, I have taught students from age 6-20. It has been an interesting experience! http://www.eleutian.com/qualify/registers/welcome
