Fill It to the Brim is a very hands-on activity for primary students to experiment with capacity. They will choose either Tablespoon or Cup as the unit of measure, and then experiment with filling various containers to find out how much each will hold. There is an easy-to-follow directions card, a recording sheet, and a page with pictures of containers. Children work independently or with a partner to fill the containers of their choice. Terry Palmieri specializes in the development and implementation of standard-based educational math and literacy activities for students in K - 2nd grade. During her 25 years of experience as a classroom teacher for students in the first three grade levels, she gravitated toward the use and development of interactive center activities to maximize learning.
