Send this review pack home with your students in order to keep their math and literacy skills sharp! This packet includes one math or literacy activity every weekday for 10 weeks. It also includes a 2-page game board with 5 types of cards: Addition; subtraction; sight words; blends, digraphs, and long vowel sound words; and sight word sentences.

The activities included address the following Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts (© Copyright 2010. National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers. All rights reserved.):
RL.1.2. Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.
RL.1.3. Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.
RI.K.6. Name the author and illustrator of a text and define the role of each in presenting the ideas or information in a text.
RF.1.1. Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print. Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word, capitalization, ending punctuation).
RF.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
RF.1.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
RF.1.4. Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
W.1.3. Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.
SL.1.4. Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.
SL.1.5. Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
SL.1.6. Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation.
L.1.1. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
L.1.2. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
1.OA.1. Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions.
1.OA.2. Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20.
1.OA.3. Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract.2 Examples: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
1.OA.4.Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem. For example, subtract 10 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8. Add and subtract within 20.
1.OA.5. Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
1.OA.6. Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 4 = 13 3 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
1.OA.7. Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 - 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.
1.OA.8. Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = _3, 6 + 6 = _
1.NBT.1. Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
1.NBT.2. Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.
1.NBT.3. Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Grades Taught:
Subject Area:

I have been teaching for almost 13 years, most of them spent teaching pre-K and kindergarten. I also have experience teaching up to 3rd grade. I have used my love of reading to develop a set of 30 phonics-based beginning reading books for use in preschool-first grade. In addition, I have developed sets of reading games and math games that can be used in the classroom or as take-home activities and can be adjusted to address various skill levels. I also have a range of hands on, cut-and-glue materials which keep young students engaged. They have proven to be a success in my own classroom and I'm excited to share them on Teachers Pay Teachers!
