This activity was designed to help students practice spelling of Common Core math vocabulary words and handwriting. I am currently working as a math coach and wanted a way for my teachers to "kill two birds with one stone" by using any spare handwriting/spelling time as a way for students to become more familiar with the math vocabulary in the Common Core.

I would suggest printing the cards on cardstock and then laminating them so that children can write on them with dry erase markers. If you don't have a laminator you can always put them in a sheet protector.

The vocabulary words are labeled with the following:

AT: Algebraic Thinking
BTO: Base Ten Operations
M & D: Measurement & Data
G: Geometry

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth

I have 12 years of experience in education. I taught high school English for 5 years (4 in SoCal and 1 at Colegio de Americano de Guatemala in Guatemala City). Upon returning to the States (following getting married and moving to Ohio) I was a teacher-leader at an alternative high school for a year. Then I took a job as a School Improvement Coach/Consultant in reading and math with the Ohio Department of Educations Region 10 State Support Team. I work with the R10 SST for 5 years in elementary, middle and high schools. My work with the SST was mostly data, curriculum development and "teaching" teachers based. Due to funding cuts my department with the SST was cut. Currently I work part-time as a math coach/consultant with an elementary school. I love curriculum development and brainstorming with teachers on engaging ways to teach students.
