This activity asks that students have previously come up with several ideas for a story they will write. They are to pick one idea and write 5 possible, but very different, first sentences for their story. They will then pick the best first sentence and continue writing the first paragraph of their story. A good way to help students begin writing - always the hardest part!

I have worked with a number of grades, between the regular school year and summer school, including 6th - 12th grade. I originally started with an elementary background, and so I have some elementary materials as well. For the past few years, I moved up to higher education, teaching at a community college.
