This bar graph can be used with my "Food Group Tally" page. Here the children can graph their results to show how often they've eaten foods from each food group over a week of time. The graph can also be used in many other activities. For example, it can be used to show the class's favorite food group. Other times, I've had the children cut out pictures of foods from magazines. Then they sorted them by food group. We then made a graph of which food group was most often represented in the magazines. There are so many possibilities! Again, check out my "Food Group Tally" page. This is a great supplemental activity that will help each child see how balanced his/her diet is, while incorporating math!

I have started to utilize this daily during my afternoon centers. Students need to not only know what groups the foods they ate for snacks and lunches go into, they need to know how to use and read a graph. I teach high school special ed and nutrition has been a big theme for my students. Thanks.
