This lesson/research project allows students to analyze the food and its symbolism in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
It includes 16 pages of handouts/printables, 13 pages of answer keys, and 17 pages of detailed notes and sources for the symbols. I also include my own theories and predictions based on the food items. The students will be amazed by the depth and significance each item brings to the story.
This is a great project for students that will inspire higher-level thinking and creativity, as well as fine-tune those research skills. I included ways to differentiate instruction for varying levels of students.

I love Tracee's stuff; I do use this workbook as it is an excellent teaching tool just very difficult to grade. The kids find it tedious, especially the ones who don't use it while they read or the ones who just don't read at all.

Amazing materials. A unit for the entire book that allows for differentiation and a different approach to the novel, which is nice as many of my students have already read the book. This allows for more analysis in a way students wouldn't do on their own.

The lesson is a wonderful higher order thinking skills activity. This indepth symbolism lesson was an excellent opportunity for my advanced eighth graders. One suggestion that would help the children is to include page numbers for each day's meals.

I love the concept behind this lesson. I'm SERIOUSLY considering buying the CD for The Hunger Games unit, and I was wondering if this lesson (food symbolism) is included on the CD. Thank you in advance for your help.
