This PowerPoint deals with the parts of fraction and what the numbers represent. Students have the opportunity to make fractions to represent the pictures shown. There is also vocabulary development in this presentation. Students progress to making equivalent fractions. At the end of the PowerPoint students have the opportunity to work independently on exercises reviewing the concepts presented in the PowerPoint.
Exploring Fractions 2
This PowerPoint reviews some vocabulary dealing with fractions. It introduces the concept of lowest term or simplest form. The students work through practice problems reducing fractions. At the conclusion of the PowerPoint students are given the opportunity to demonstrate independently their knowledge of reducing fractions to the lowest term.
Exploring Fractions 3
This PowerPoint deals with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students work through these concepts step-by-step using shapes to determine what each number in a mixed number and an improper fraction represents. The mathematical formation of mixed numbers and improper fractions are also explained. Students are given the opportunity to solve problems converting mixed numbers to fractions and vice versa.
