This math activity developed by Teacher all the Time geared to grade levels, K-5. In this activity math students will study fractions and graphing. Students will be naming "Fractions as a Set" and will show "Fractions of a Set". Students will be given a package of Skittles and be asked to estimate the number candies found in the bag. Students will then open their bag and count the candies. They will then sort their candies by color and record their data. They will then decide what number represents wht whole part of their fraction and which represents the color. Students can be taught what a numerator and denominator represent in a fraction. Once this activity is completed, students will graph their candies and answer questions. The will use the data from their graphs to complete the questions.
Loved it. We did this the day before winter vacation and it was perfect review of fractions and kept their attention. Thanks!

Great lesson for fractions for the week of St. Patrick's Day. We will glue our skittles into a rainbow pattern after graphing and enjoy eating some too.
