This is an interactive PowerPoint where students practice their oral French by listening to pattern sentences and repeating them. This particular file practices using the verb "pouvoir" as well as other verbs. Students talk about what they can do, what they can play and where they can go. There are sentences in the present and past tenses and the Powerpoint is set up so that students can listen to each sentence and repeat it at their own pace.

The second file is a PDF document with worksheets and illustrated vocabulary lists which reinforce what students are learning in the PowerPoint. Students are asked to write their own sentences about what they can and cannot do. There are also worksheets to practice past tense.

In the Powerpoint, the words in the sentences appear as they are being said, allowing students to read as they repeat. The PowerPoint is designed for students who have a bit of French already. It uses repetition to reinforce new vocabulary and sentence structures and can be used as a whole class lesson, as individual practice or for homework.

The Powerpoint contains 52 slides as follows:
Slides 4-10: Using "je peux" and "il peut" with everyday verbs.
Slides 11-12: Question "can" and model of follow up practice worksheet.
Slides 13-14: Using "il peut" with "jouer" for sports and instruments.
Slides 15-17: Question about what you can play and model of follow practice and word wall.
Slides 18-22: Using "il peut" and present tense sentences.
Slides 23-24: Question about what you like to do and model of follow up worksheet.
Slides 25-29: Using "aimer" and places you like to go.
Slides 30-31: Question about where you like to go and model of follow up worksheet.
Slides 33-40: A repeat of slides 5-10 and 12-13, but adding a sentence in the passÃ© composÃ©.
Slides 41-42: Questions about what you did yesterday and follow up worksheet
Slides 43-47: A repeat of slides 18-22, but adding a sentence using the the passÃ© composÃ©.
Slides 48-49: Question about what did you do yesterday and model of follow up worksheet.
Slides 50-54: A repeat of slides 25-29, but adding a sentence using the the passÃ© composÃ©..
Slides 55-56: Question about where did you go yesterday and model of follow up worksheet.

I have been teaching for 20 years in a variety of school systems. 20 years ago I spent 4 years teaching ESL overseas and upon my return home to Canada I then spent 4 years teaching French Immersion in K, 1, 4, 5. This was followed by teaching Grade 1 for 5 years at an international school Japan with a large and varied ESL population mixed in with native speakers of English. I am now back in Canada teaching Grade 1 French Immersion again.
