French "RE Verb" Partner Activities (Speak, Read, Listen, Write)

These are a great activities for students to work on the forms and meanings of regular RE verbs in French. The three activities are very interactive and offer students an opportunity to work collaboratively.
Vocabulary:
vendre, perdre, rendre, repondre, entendre, attendre, correspondre, defender, descendre, mordre, tordre
This document includes materials for 3 activities:
* Activity 1:
Each student gets a copy of sheet 1. One student begins by saying the subject and verb below Debut and the other student finds the the English translation the top of one of the squares. He/she says the subject and verb in English, and then reads the French subject and verb on the bottom of that square. The student who began then finds the new word. The activity continues until the students get to the last square and say Fin. The students can time how long it takes to go through to the end and try it several times to try to beat their time. There are two variations:
--Cover squares with bingo chip or piece of paper as they are used to make it easier to locate remaining squares
--No covering of squares for more of a challenge.
*Activity 2:
Students cut up the squares and line them up in order in one long strip placing the French above the English. There are two variations:
--Start with Debut and go to Fin
--Start with Fin and go to Debut
*Activity 3:
Students write in subjects and verbs in either English or French (sheets 2 and 3) after doing the other activities. They should try to do it without looking back at the slips of paper from sheet 1. They can do this activity together or they can do them individually. This can also be done orally with one student saying the French or English word and writing the answer of the partner (who is not looking at the vocabulary.
This is a great activity for review or for an activity that can be left with a substitute teacher.

I have been teaching World Language (French, Spanish, Italian) at the elementary, middle and high school levels for 16 years. I regularly present foreign language teaching methodology workshops at state, regional and national conferences and in teacher preparation programs at various universities. I have spent time volunteering in schools in impoverished areas of Nicaragua and a portion of the money earned through TPT is used to buy school supplies (pencils, paper, books) for students at the Panama School in La Concha, Nicaragua.
