Thank you so much for sharing this idea! There is so much more involved, here, than just letter writing. Not only is it giving students opportunities to write but the way you've set it up, this is also teaching students how to communicate KINDLY. In particular, I like your page of Friendly Greetings and "I've Been Picked" markers. Both model use of 'kind' language.

I use the "bucket filler" program in my classroom and I have struggled with coming up with a way to encourage my students to write everyone in the class even though they have their favorites! I love the idea of the "Pick Me" and "I've Been Picked" buckets with their names on popsicle sticks as well as the notes that students can put in their boxes to tell friends they've already been written to. Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!!

Hi,
Thanks for your question. We use whatever stamps and pads that we either have on hand or can get donated. We definitely prefer the washable stamp pads, when giving our first graders access to this *privilege*. Being that our stamps are a hodgepodge of rubber stamps, they require a stamp pad as opposed to self-inking. :)

Christy and Tammy have each been teaching for 15 years, the past 10 together sharing a first grade classroom. Each teaching at separate schools in our district, we found each other after becoming first time moms and wanting {needing} to return to the classroom and our passion of teaching. We decided to job share until our own kids entered Kindergarten...those kids just turned 10 years old! Though we began this journey as teacher strangers and new moms, we have found a partnership and friendship that will last a lifetime. We are the teachers we are because of each other and we cannot imagine teaching without one another.
