This is a printable math center activity or small group game to play with a small group oran individual student to learn the addition strategy of 'counting on'.
You will need whiteboard markers (dry erase markers) to play this game if you choose to laminate it.
Your student/s will have so much fun learning to 'count on' from the big number to find the total.
Students will also be required to write an addition sentence to complete each of the 35 cards.
The visual support offers students help as they make the transition from using concrete materials to solve addition to completing them with a formal written maths sentence. Each card features two cards, one with a numeral, and the other a dot pattern arrangement. Number sums start from 5+1 and go through to 9+9. The sums always feature the big number first.
This is a resource for students just beginning to understand addition and the counting-on strategy - so we have only included totals up to 20.
This pdf file contains a teaching tips page, clear easy-to-read instructions, 35 colourful activity cards and 35 black and white cards. The black and white cards are identical sums, they have been included to give you a priinter-ink saving option or to use as worksheets.
