This is a freebie sampler of the first several pages of my genre study book. It includes teacher tips, a cover sheet, title page, and a few pages for identifying characteristics of fiction and nonficiton.
The complete genre study printable is aligned with third grade TEKS in Texas, but includes genre that are useful and represent a good sampling needed by kids to read widely.
It includes 17 student pages for recording characteristics of these genre: Personal Narratives, Legends, Folktales, Myths, Drama, Poetry, Biography & Autobiography, Expository, Persuasive, and Procedural. It includes places for students to record characteristics in a variety of formats, including charts, venn diagrams, and simple boxes.
Also included is one page of teacher tips to help you consider the best way to use this in your classroom.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I've taught elementary school for nine years. I spent eight years in fourth grade, and this is my first year in third! I'm a past president of the El Paso Reading Council, the local branch of the International Reading Association, and I'm also a Teacher-Consultant for the West Texas Writing Project, the local site of the National Writing Project. I love to teach all contents, but my heart is in literacy!
