Geometry and Figure Dimensions: Math Study Guide, Trista P. Nwokey, www.chalkspot.com
A one page geometry study guide that will help your elementary student understand why we use exponents in our measurements when we calculate area and volume. Discussing dimensions (the measurements used to define an object) when talking about measuring different figures, helps the students to understand why area calculations are in square units and volume calculations are in cubic units. I am entering my nineteenth year as a teacher in Westfield, New Jersey. During this time I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This year I will be teaching 3rd grade (looping with 14 of my second graders from last year). My goal has been to encourage my students to become independent and creative thinkers. I am always humbled by what my students remember and the projects that have made an impact on their learning.
