A wax resist art project for younger students about germs and bacteria. Lesson explanation, along with activity printable and vocabulary/word cards. Students will learn that bacteria can be classified by their shape of rod, sphere and spiral. They will draw bacteria in a "petri dish" and color it heavily with crayon. Then they will paint over it with a watercolor wash.
I just started my unit on the body and will be using this lesson to teach how to wash your hands and how germs stay on your hands.
We used to have the UNM health clinic come in to teach hand washing, but with budget cuts at the university, this has stopped.
I look forward to purchasing more unit from you.

This was a good activity for crossing the curriculum.

My kids LOVED doing this and the art turned out great! Used it with a unit on bacteria and germs with a 6th grade special ed classroom. Thanks! :)
