I have been looking at many ideas you have for centers in your room. I see you change them each week and they run for 30min. What do you allow the children to do if they finish before centers are over? I know that I have trouble where kids finish before time is up so I'm curious to know how you handle this situation. Do you sell your centers for the week each week? Do you have a list of your themes that you will be covering for the month (pacing guide for these)? Would love to follow and use your themes, looks like you have a great set up to tie math and literacy around your themes. I love how you list the books for the week and ideas to go w/them for the week too. Would love to have more of those!! Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to share with me. Hi Carrie -- Yes, centers run about 30 minutes - give or take a few. In the beginning of the year they are shorter - more exporatory to get used to using the materials. I try to watch the kids and stop when most are finished. If students aren't completely finished with their activity, that's okay! I watch closely to see if they have been engaged the whole time. If they are messing around, I make them finish during free play. It doesn't take long for them to figure out that they better work hard during center time! When they are finished, they have a few choices -- I introduce each choice SLOWLY. In the beginning, I as them to simply turn their paper over and practice writing their name, alphabet, numbers, words, etc. As the year progresses, I start to give them more choices -- read from book basket, write in journals, etc. Now the choice that they have are: book basket, journals, write the room, pocket chart activity, writing center, big books, and I have a few other literacy activities that I put in baskets. I don't really care what they are doing as long as they are keeping busy! I keep the activities fun for them so they WANT to finish and do them! When we come back, we'll do New Years/Hot Chocolate Fun, Snow/snowmen, penguins, 100th day, etc.... Hope that helps a little bit!

I love all of your stuff! I was wondering if you would be selling the numbers WAR game independently. My kids L-O-V-E-D the turkey number war game (and played it all over break!) and I would love to be able to buy the WAR game but I don't need the whole packet. Is that a possibility?
