I would try this: Download the video and save it to your desktop. Then, right click it and see which programs you have that might play it. I would try each one to see if they will play it. If not, you might try downloading it on another computer. Thank you so much for your interest in my store! If this doesn't work, you can email me directly at: teachertam(at)att(dot)net

Great video! Can you please tell me where to find out more about using graphics and font legally? For instance, is it ok to use font and clipart from Word? Where else can I get font and graphics that are legal to use? I'm just getting started on TpT and I'm a little confused. I'd really appreciate it if you could guide me in the right direction. Thanks!!!
On  March 11, 2013Teacher Tam answered:
Thanks! If you go to your dashboard on TPT, scroll down to "Information & Resources" right under the apple. There, you will find the TPT Seller's Handbook. The first few pages cover clipart and copyright issues (including Word, which I know nothing about). As for me, I purchase most of mine from other teachers on TPT and on Teachers Notebook. www.kpmdoodles.com is my favorite! You can find some good public domain images at www.openclipart.org. I use that site a lot when I can't find specific items. Just be sure to read the terms of use from each seller, which usually means you provide their link somewhere on your product and maybe on your blog. I hope that helps! Best of luck and welcome to TPT!

On  December 15, 2012Turning Frowns Into Smiles Style Teaching (TpT Seller) said:
Thank you so very much Tam for sharing this video. I was really lost earlier but now I have some direction. One thing. When you mention about setting your margins, I don't have that wording on my version of word 2007. Is that exclusive to Mac computers? I am a little confused when it comes to that because my borders are slightly off. I know you mentioned that you use the .5 size so that you can get a lot of information in the box so I would like to learn how to do so on a non-Mac computer. If you don't example know how, its not a problem. The information that you shared thus far is invaluable. Once again, thank you soooooo very much!!!
On  December 15, 2012Teacher Tam answered:
I have Word 2007, too. I can't imagine it being that different for a Mac because I used to use a PC all the time, but we'll see . . . To change the margins, I went to "Format" on the bar along the top, then went down to "document," then a window automatically popped up with the margins that could be changed. HOWEVER, even though I always change the margins, you really wouldn't have to do that if you are using text boxes for everything (which I usually do anyway, just because of that silly "autocorrect" feature that sometimes drives me crazy!). I tested it using boxes only and it will still print what it prints. Meaning that, there will be a little margin left, but not the inch it has on the default settings. Let me know if that helps! And you are very welcome. I'm glad the video helped!

Hi Tammy, I know that you have had some wonderful tips for mac users in the forums. I have 2 questions. Do you know of anyway that I can easily locate posts from you in the forums as I would like to look back and see what you have posted about working on a mac? Secondly, I make my products on my mac and save them as pdf's but I am at a total loss on how to take individual pages and make them into previews for the products. Can you guide me in this process? Thanks so much! Chery

I am glad that my tips have been helpful! I have no idea how to do that on the forums, although TPT customer service probably does. You might want to contact them about that. How to make JPGs from PDFs is covered in video #4:

Hi, Tammy. I'm having a little bit of a challenge trying to figure out how everyone else is making their files scrollable, like an e-book with the highest quality look to their images. I'm currently using PowerPoint and then saving my PowerPoint as a PDF file to make it into an e-book; however, some of my products (I am noticing have a digitized look). The pages do not look that way at first but only when I save them as a PDF file from PowerPoint. Do you have any recommendations?
I'm thinking it may be due to the fact that I'm creating my images on my iPad from the IDraw app (which has been fabulous), saving it to Dropbox, and then inserting them as images into PowerPoint which then need to be expanded to fit the page. I have so many products that I'm getting ready to launch but I want to put out the best quality I can. Thank you so much for your time. I truly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Faye

I have heard that a lot of teachers are using PowerPoint, so it's surprising that you aren't getting the same results. I always used Word, but didn't like the last version, so I started using Pages on my Mac. Yes, mine look a little more digitized when I make PDFs, but they seem to print fine.
As for recommendations, I have only made a few sets of graphics. I used to use a Wacom (sp?) tablet, but then tried the iPad. For some reason, the iPad graphics weren't as sharp. I really think it had something to do with transferring it so many times from the iPad to email to another program to make the final product. Drawing the graphics in another program with the tablet directly on my laptop seemed to make better graphics. But, I'm not really sure. You might want to try contacting someone who does a lot of graphics, such as Melanie from "Graphics from the Pond." Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Hi! I'm just getting started here - I'm a high school business teacher and I have several lessons and powerpoints that I would love to share on here. I'm concerned about copyright....obviously in business we are talking about real companies and brands quite a bit, so is it allowed for me to use real commercials within my powerpoint or company logos if they are used for educational purchases? I have seen several other powerpoints on this website that do use pictures, images, links to commercials and etc but I don't know if that is allowed. Thanks so much for your help!

If not, you can go to my blog and scroll down. Look to the right at the different months of posts. This was posted in January this year. If you click on January, the post will come up and you can click on it.
Thank you so much for your kind words and welcome to TPT!

Hi! I viewed your "Getting Started" video, it was great! Thank you for the help!

I was wondering if you knew how to create thumbnails for Smartboard Lessons? I made sure the first slide was nice, and the TPT website said the file was too big. I also created a word document (with the text boxes you showed), and that would not load either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I would like for my lessons to attract attention!

Thanks so much!

Although I have never created smartboard files, from what I have read, I think you can first save it as a PDF, right? Then, you open the PDF, select the page you want and save it as a JPG (make sure to reduce the size so it will load).
The same with word. I make all my files PDFs so that no one can steal the graphics and because not everyone has word. Plus, if you used a certain formatting or special fonts, unless the other person has that font installed, it will revert back to plain old times new roman! So, you select "print" and then scroll down to "save as PDF".

I am unsure about copyright for clip art I use from the web to create my materials. If I purchase clip art, that's ok to use, right? But what about clip art from Microsoft Word?

On  September 30, 2012Teacher Tam answered:
You really have to check the Terms of Use on any clipart that you buy. For example, www.digiwebstudio.com only lets you use their clipart for paid items, whereas www.digiscrapkits.com clipart can be used in paid items or freebies. I don't use any from Microsoft Word because I am unsure about the terms. You could look into that, but if I don't know for sure, I don't use it. I have started to find that using clipart created by other teachers (I buy some from here and some from www.teachersnotebook.com) is probably my safest bet. They understand the hows, whats, wheres, and whys of what we are using it for. I also like to use public domain stuff, such as that found at www.openclipart.org. You can really find some useful images there sometimes, especially if it's for an ABC work or something that could use more realistic (or uncommon) images. I hope this helps a bit! You can always email me directly at teachertam2 (at) gmail (dot) com. Once you sign up with TPT, there is a LOT of info about this topic (and others regarding copyright) on the forums. With TPT, you definitely aren't the Lone Ranger. Some of the teachers on here have been publishing for a long time and they are a lot more knowledgable than I am (thankfully)!
