"Gliders by Design" is Seeds Software's compact home/school version of flight software. It is a great math and science project to have fun with at home or an excellent addition to any aviation, transportation, or STEM curriculum in schools. The software package covers the fundamentals of flight and design while being focused on using the computer to readily design gliders to build and have a blast flying -- you learn by doing.
The package is well tested for use in the classroom and includes digital written labs and lessons as well as many design tips and aids that make it ready to use for learning so that you can spend much more of your time having fun doing real teaching. You will find your students highly motivated to learn and engaged so that they can compete to come up with the best glider.
The construction materials needed to make gliders are not included with the software. However the gliders you design can be made from inexpensive readily available supplies. You can have your students make great flyers out of cardstock, clay, and superglue; or make larger more impressive gliders out of balsawood, clay, and hot glue -- it all depends on your budget, time, and plans.
This program has been a great success in many classrooms around the country from grades 5 to 12. Please keep in mind though that building gliders requires a sufficient level of dexterity and measurement skills to safely and accurately cut out parts and glue them together to end up with gliders that fly well and not all younger students are at that level of maturity.
The license is for use of the program on a single computer. Discounts for multiple computers are available.
