I wrote this the day after the inauguration of Barack Obama. It is his speech in essence, but divided among 31 speakers - this number easily adaptable, up or down. It simplifies some of his language and could be read by grade 3 upwards. I was inspired by the speech and thought this would be a great resource to have, to either read in the classroom or to actually perform. With Presidents Day coming up (plus birthdays of Lincoln and Washington) it could be used in a discussion of what makes a president great. It could also be used in conjunction with my set of 7 group readers, called Meet the Presidents (along with Meet the First Ladies) - both available off my website on www.plays-r-ussell.com These group readers, which are for groups of 6 children, come with quizzes, and are an excellent guided reading or readers theater resource.

I taught in the U.K. for 15 years - temporary and permanent positions plus supply/substitute teaching. I taught all year groups at primary/elementary level and have done some substitute teaching since arriving in the USA. My degree was in History so I always particularly enjoyed teaching this subject, and creating class plays/assemblies around what I was teaching in the classroom - whether it be Ancient Egyptians or King Henry VIII and his Six Wives!
