Guide your students to deeper levels of reading for a purpose with this interdisciplinary activity. This activity leads the students through a pre-reading activity connecting the topic to real life. Then they will complete a reading activity analyzing the goals, obstacles, and major events of a successful person. Finally, they will conduct a post-reading SOAPS analysis.
The students will be able to:
- Reflectively identify self goals.
- Identify the goals and obstacles of successful people in history.
- Create a timeline based on nonfiction literature.
- Utilize skills and vocabulary that are common in high-stakes exams
The design of the activity is also effective with English language learners.
This pre-writing activity may be used with "Biographical Essay - Successful Person in History".
