These Common Core Standards posters for fifth grade are unique because the concept of each standard is illustrated with a colorful graphic that helps students visualize the standard. The graphics are cute but not babyish. They don’t just decorate the poster; they truly VISUALIZE the concept of the standard, so students who don’t understand the text can figure it out by looking at the picture. Some of the standards even have more than one illustration to choose from. When I thought of more than one way to visualize a standard, I made an optional poster. I also provided optional posters in consideration of the ethnic diversity that may exist in your classroom. I took a lot of care to make sure these posters include pictures of boys and girls from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

The illustrations are not the only thing about these posters to help your students understand the standard. The wording of the standard has been rewritten to make it kid-friendly, while still maintaining the intended meaning and academic rigor of the standard. I’ve substituted synonyms for complex academic words when possible, and I’ve broken the standard down into smaller chunks of meaning to make it easier to comprehend.

In addition to all the illustrated standards posters, there are over a dozen themes to choose from so you can hang these posters in a way that matches your classroom theme or color scheme. The themes include a title sheet that says “Common Core Standards” or “Grade 5 Performance Standards,” and subject headers that say “Math Standard” and “ELA Standard.” (If you need more specific headers like “Language,” “Writing” or “Reading,” just email me after you purchase, tell me the page number of the theme you are using, and I will make the headers and send them to you.)

Some of the themes are a bit hard to name because they are more a "style" than a theme. The best way to see them is to look at the free preview.

Here's a partial list:

Rock Star Theme
Monster Theme
Pirate Theme
Rainbow Theme
Planet Theme
Scrapbook Lettering Themes (5 of them)
Woodland Critters Theme
Cute Little Insects
Comic Book Theme
Retro Theme

I recently added a sunny ocean beach theme and a jungle/zoo theme. They aren’t included in this download but you can get them for free in my TPT store.

If there is a theme you want that you don’t find in this download or in my TPT store, email me and I will make it for you.

Everything in this poster kit can be printed on letter size (8.5” x 11”) paper. No complicated cutting is required. There are two standard posters per page to save paper. You just have to cut one time down the middle of the page to separate the posters.

Any chance you are going to do a superhero theme? Also, will you be creating S.S. and Science Common Core standards posters?

A superhero theme is a great idea! Problem is, all the good superhero artwork I can find is copyrighted, or can't be used for commercial purposes.

There is a possible solution. There is a comic book style/theme in my posters that you could add superhero stickers or cutouts to. That might do the trick.

Regarding the Science and SS standards: right now they're different from State to State. The National Science Standards are almost finalized. I'd love to make posters for those this summer or some time in the next year.

I just joined TPT tonight to look at this product. I don't really know how this works. I see you have many themes. Do I download this and then apply the theme to the standards, or does each of the themes have all the standards on them already? When you say that you have Ohio on your to-do list...what does that mean? Common Core goes across states. What specifically are you going to do that is Ohio specific?

Thanks!

Hi! The Common Core standards go across states, that's right. But some states have added their own standards. Usually not more than five or so. When I say I have Ohio on my to-do list, that means I'm working on posters to cover the handful of standards that Oho has added. But the posters in the download here on TPT will cover 99% of the Ohio standards as is.

When I finish the Ohio standards, I'll make them available for download here on TPT as a small add-on that will integrate with this poster kit.

The way the themes work is... there are title pages and subject headings that you hang along with the standards posters. The posters for the standards are not themed. The title pages and subject headings are. Some teachers don't even use the themed parts - they only use the posters for the standards themselves. It's a very flexible product that can be used a lot of different ways. There's even a way to print the posters smaller and use them as tents or cards at each desk or table.

Please have a look at the free preview, and feel free to email me if you have any more questions.

Hello,
I just purchased the grade 5 common core posters and standards. I would like to know if you have a Hollywood Theme.

How do I see the themes, and is there an easy way to print pages?

Is there any possibility of getting a "Social Studies Standard" heading to match the rock-star theme at the same size as the half-sheet "boxed in" ELA Standard and Math Standard heading. I love to know where you got that font so I could make some labels for my word wall, learning tasks, subject and lunch/attendance headings. I would take an "All-Star Students" label too. Thanks for letting me know if/what you could do.

Hi! The font is called Nightmare Hero. Its free. Google it and you'll find it.

I've heard that national standards for Social Studies and Science will be finalized in the fall. (Have you heard the same?) I'm going to make posters for those so you will definitely be able to get the rock star labels for SS and Science at that time.

I'll post the labels here on TPT as a free product as soon as they are done. Follow me so you'll get a notification. Or you can email me at steve.g.gipson@gmail.com

I have purchased some of your illustrated common core posters. They are great. My principal however has asked me if she can contact you directly? Is that possible? She has a couple questions about your illustrated common core strategies. I would be happy to forward her information if that works better for you. Thank you.

What is the difference in the common core illustrated posters and the regular posters?

Hi! In the illustrated posters, the concept or learning goal of each standard is illustrated with a graphic. In the regular ones, the standard is text-only. Check out the free previews for a closer look that might be more clear than my explanation here.

These are great! I am in Ohio. If I purchase, will I have the ability to adjust wording to fit our common core?

Unfortunately, there was no way I could make the wording editable. The posters are in PDF format. I don't know how much the Ohio standards vary from the national ones, but for the purposes of classroom display, the posters as they are might be "close enough".
