Help your students use contractions properly and write complex sentences correctly. The contractions display visually shows how contractions are made and is printed in large enough font for students to be able to see it from any seat in the classroom.
The sentence display provides examples of how different connectors are used to connect clauses and help students write complex sentences, making their writing smoother and less repetitive. The examples are especially useful for ESL students who need direct instruction in how to combine ideas into longer sentences.
The file contains:
- 21 contractions
- 16 sentences illustrating 19 sentence connectors (and, so, but, because, when, before, after, then, if/would, after that, suddenly, meanwhile, a few minutes later, while, one day, the next day, finally, first, later.
Bonus: A pronoun poster showing subject and object pronouns is also included. Again, this is especially helpful for ESL students who sometimes confuse subject and object pronouns.
Note: Displays need to be printed on legal sized paper.

I have been teaching for 20 years in a variety of school systems. 20 years ago I spent 4 years teaching ESL overseas and upon my return home to Canada I then spent 4 years teaching French Immersion in K, 1, 4, 5. This was followed by teaching Grade 1 for 5 years at an international school Japan with a large and varied ESL population mixed in with native speakers of English. I am now back in Canada teaching Grade 1 French Immersion again.
