September 12 is the holiday to honor grandparents. Energize your students with this fun activity! This 8-page puzzle packet includes teaching suggestions, the Word Creator activity page, a master for letter tiles, a scoring record sheet, and a comprehensive key to the puzzle. Word Creator puzzles are great ice-breakers, and students love working them in partner/teams or alone. The puzzles are high-interest and allow students to practice and improve their problem solving and spelling skills, and provide a great opportunity to develop new vocabulary. One of the best features of this puzzle activity is that everyone is successful! Students of all ages and skill levels love Word Creators! I've personally used the activities with students from grade 4 through adults -general education students, special education students, and ELL students. The activity can even be repeated -students will find more words, especially as they become adept at seeing the transformations. Look for my other Word Creator Puzzle Packets by month or holiday. My teaching experience includes 25 years as a K-12 teacher, curriculum administrator, and district federal/state programs administrator. As a teacher, I specialized in middle school language arts and mathematics. Since retiring from the K-12 system, I have been teaching curriculum and education courses at the bachelors' and masters' degree levels as well as supervising student teachers. I am also a successful grant writer, specializing in competitive state and federal grant projects. As a private contractor, I also work to help teachers who need assistance to improve their skills.
