This is the first three chapters of a book I've written titled Graphic Organizers to Support Strategic Reading Instruction. This free document contains graphic organizers to support strategic reading instruction and includes Activating Schema/Setting Purpose, Questioning and Creating Sensory Images. The full text, which contains organizers for the remaining five "good reader" strategies can be purchased on TeachersPayTeachers.com
The organizers are flexible and can be used with any type of reading program or approach. Enhance your students' metacognitive skills by teaching them how to think while they're reading. Use graphic organizers to hold thinking, develop ideas and deepen understanding of strategic reading.

I have given credit to the authors of known organizers (e.g. the KWL chart) when they are known. These are organizers I've created over the years based on reading research and organizers that have been in the public domain for years.
The completed version of this book (remember this is only the first three chapters that I've provided as a free download) will have a references section which credits the authors of organizers when known). Thank you!

I haven't used it yet, but I just downloaded it and skimmed through it, and it looks really good. It includes some of the "basic" graphic organizers you always see, but it seemed to include at least 2 or 3 variations of each one. These variations not only allow the teacher to choose the most appropriate one, but it allows makes it possible to not always have to use the same one; gives an opportunity for variety. They seem to be great organizers to get the kids focused & connected to and with what they are reading. I am excited to start using them in the fall.

Hi Evelyn, It won't allow you to order the complete book because I haven't posted it yet. I'm revising the final copy now, which is the good news! I've added quite a few new organizers, made the pages more "user friendly" in some cases, and have completed the remaining chapters for the rest of the reading strategies. I hope to have the completed book posted by the end of the summer-just in time for the new school year!

The book is in a revision stage right now, but the Table of Contents will be organized around "The Eight Great" Reading Strategies: Activating Schema & Setting Purpose, Questioning, Creating Sensory Images, Predicting & Inferring, Determining Importance, Summarizing & Synthesizing, Self-Monitoring and Analyzing & Evaluating.

I have been an educator for 18 years; I am currently serving as a Coach in a K-5 elementary school. I also teach an education course at the graduate level.
