A science class can be overwhelming with facts and information. Graphic organizers such as concept maps, event chains, and cycle maps are invaluable tools to help a student organize complex concepts by breaking them down into smaller parts. Students will quickly realize that this is a skill that can be applied in all subjects as they study for mastery before a test.
This product contains everything you need to teach this important skill to your students:
> A 23-slide PowerPoint leads the student in a step by step format in how to construct the right type of graphic organizer for the type of material being read or studied.
> A set of student notes (4-pages) provides an outline that the student will fill in as the lesson is being presented.
> A set of teacher notes (4-pages) provides tips and cues for you as you teach the lesson.
> Practice problem worksheets are included for students to complete once they have been taught the process.
> Answer Keys are provided for the practice problems.
This product is included on my Science Skills CD, a shipped item.
The CD contains 52 different products on science skills, including metric system, scientific method, scientific notation, graphing, significant digits, experimental design, comparing and contrasting and more.
Three types of graphic organizers are taught in this lesson. They are: Concept maps, event chains, and cycle maps. These three types of graphic organizers can be used for any type of science concept or reading passage.
In both the PowerPoint and the practice problem worksheets, students are given passages of scientific information to read. The student will first decide what type of graphic organizer would be best for the passage. Then, the student will organize and draw the appropriate graphic organizer.
Documents are included as Word documents as well as in PDF form. All answers are included.
