While incorporating a teacher-created video, double-entry journals, original student-created parodies and a classic poetry analysis protocol, this unit inspires adolescents to discover the amazing talents of Dr. Maya Angelou.
This unit takes approximately three 60-minute class periods for students in grades 5 through 9, including homework assignments and an optional pop quiz.
To introduce the author, be sure to visit TeacherTube.com and use my video created just for this unit! You can link to it from your own webpage and allow students to watch the video from home, or you can hook up your own projector and show it in class. This strategy is much more fun for students than sitting through lecture and taking notes.
