Of all of my units, I think I am MOST proud of this one! As I have been teaching the common core standards for 4th grade this year, I noticed that there are two standards in particular that address Greek Mythology.

If your class is anything like mine, they LOVE Greek Mythology! They are all into the Percy Jackson books and The Heroes of Olympus series. So, needless to say that they were SUPER excited about this unit!

In this unit you will find:
-Teacher's Notes
-Schema chart instructional materials (to activate prior knowledge, record new learning, and misconceptions)
-Greek Myth Tree Map
-Venn Diagram to Compare/Contrast Myths (several instructional uses included)
-Greek terminology that is used in today's language (meets specifically 4th grade common core standards)
-Greek terminology (allusions) booklet for the kids to make (the allusions are from popular myths like King Midas, Pandora's Box, Hercules, etc.)
-Greek Myth Allusions Assessment
-Story Map to determine characters, main events, problem, solution, theme of myths
-12 Character Trait Maps for various mythological characters
-A "Herculean" Summary sheet to practice summarizing texts
-Directions and ideas for projects and writing activities
-Greek Mythology Trading Cards activity and rubric
-Important Poem Writing Activity
-Various planning sheets and stationery for writing activities (ideas included)
-Helpful resources and website links for materials
-Outline of how I used the materials in my classroom
-Terms and Credits page

Although I created this unit for my 4th graders, it could easily used for other grades as well.

I hope you enjoy this unit as much as my students and I have.

I downloaded this recently and cannot access the unit. I cannot export nor duplicate it, nor can I open it. What should I do?

It is a zipfile, so try right clicking on the file and click extract files. It should open for you with no troubles. Beyond this, I really don't have anymore advice for you because I am not sure what exporting and duplicating the file means. If you need further assistance, please contact TpT technical support. They will be able to help you better than I.

Thanks so much!

I can get these to open. When I print, the first few pages are fine, but then the rest are super enlarged images of the corner border. I have read through all the comments and tried everything! Please Help!

April,

I am SO sorry you are having issues. I feel terrible because I really don't know what to tell you on this. I do know that Adobe recently did an update and maybe you need to update your Adobe Reader. Other than that, if you have tried all of the things I have suggested, I think it would be best if you contacted TpT for technical support. I have opened and printed the file with no trouble, so it has to be some kind of technical issue and to be honest, I am not sure how to fix it.

TpT does offer the option of getting the file emailed directly to you. If you click on the My Purchases page, there is a red "downloading difficulties" option on the right side of the screen. You can click on that it will give you the option to have files emailed to you.

I am sorry that I haven't been much help, but if you have done all of the suggestions I have made, it is a problem that I don't know how to correct.

Again, I do apologize!

Hello Nicole, I am unable to open the files I just purchased using the unzipping file. Is there another way to open these gems? I know I am going to love the materials and I can't wait to make my plans using the Mythology unit and Forces and Motion. I think I purchased 3 unzipping files. I have a new MacAir and thought this wouldn't be a problem. I have great success with pdf files.
Thanks ahead of time.

Gail,

My friend, Ashley Hughes has a wonderful tutorial on her blog about this. Here is the link:
http://www.theschoolsupplyaddict.com/1/post/2012/11/technology-tuesday-6.html

The Greek Mythology unit is a zipped file, but the Forces and Motion one is not. I hope this helps you. If not, contact me at nicoleshelby@hotmail.com and I will try to get the unit to you that way.

Thanks for your purchase!

Hello,
I am also having problems with downloading the mythology unit to print. I have tried all the suggestions on the previous posts. I have attempted to open it on several different computers as well and it freezes up when trying to print.
Are you able to email the unit and I can try that?
Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I just checked the download on two different computers and it opened with no issues, so I don't know exactly how to fix the problem because not everyone is having issues. The file is quite large, so I included a pdf file of the whole unit and then pdfs of the unit broken into smaller pieces. Have you tried printing the smaller pieces rather than the entire unit at once? Another trick to try is when printing, instead of sellecting all pages on the printer options, select defined pages like 1-12. One other trick to try is when you go to print, click on the advance button and choose to print as an image.

I think if you try these things, it should fix your problem. If not, please send me your email address and I will email the file to you. This is the option that I would prefer to use as a last resort because the file is so large, I have to send it though a site like Dropbox.

Thanks,
Nicole

Nichole,
Would you be able to share the list of resources that you use in conjunction with this unit? I would really like to see the resources before purchasing the unit.
Thank you,

I was wondering if you have additional resources for the topics below since you have been teaching with the common core standards.

Reading for Literature, Craft and Structure, 5

Thank you,

Hello Nicole,
I was curious where you got your font and super cute pictures. I am not familiar with the Kevin and Amanda font or website. Thanks!

The fonts are from Kevin and Amanda, it's a website and the Greek mythology clipart came from Melonheadz. All websites for the fonts and clipart can be found on the terms and credit page of this unit.

Thanks so much!

Hi Nicole,

I tried the suggestions but when I go to print it just spins. It will not even load. I can not get anything to print. Is it possible to get it sent seperately to see if there is a way to print it? I downloaded it to my harddrive but it still does not work. Could it be that it is a locked PDF? Can it be sent seperately so the file is not so large? I am not computer savy so these are just thoughts. Thanks!

The file is currently saved as a zipped file. It is already broken up into smaller portions. It is not a locked pdf. Have you extracted the file? You can download the file, right click on the file, and choose extract file.

I promise the file does download and print correctly, so if the above solution does not work, I would suggest contacting TpT technical support for other advice because I have shared all of the tricks I know to issues that either I have had with files I have purchased or that other buyers have had.

I am so sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,
Nicole

Are you talking about the booklet pages? If so, the font is Pea Missy from Kevin and Amanda. I hope this helps!

Hi Carolyn,

The unit does not include "actual" read aloud books, but it does contain a list of read aloud books that I use with the unit. The books are very easy to find. I checked my copies out from my local library, but they are available for purchase on Amazon and other book sites as well.

I hope this answers your question completely. Please let me know if I can be of any other assistance. Thanks for your interest in my product.

Hi Nicole,
I can download the file for Greek Mythology; however, It will not print. I've used 4 different computers. All of the computers freeze when printing. ??? I've even tried to print only a few pages. I truly think that it is the graphics. Has anyone else had trouble?
Any suggestions?????

Hi There!

I am so sorry to hear that you are having technical difficulties. You have just got to love technology.  I have had one other incident where a buyer could not get the document to print. Her issue was that she didn’t have the latest Adobe Reader installed. You can get the free download here http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

Another option is to try rightclicking on the download link and saving the target (PC) or link (Mac) to your desktop. Sometimes saving the document to your computer versus trying to print from TpT will solve the issue.

Also, if you would prefer, I can try emailing you the document. That might work.

The last option I have is to contact TpT techincal support for answers. I have contacted them several times and they are wonderful and speedy with responses.

I am so sorry you are having problems, but we will work it out! :) I have sold MANY copies of this packet and users have been able to download it and use it, so I know it’s just a technical issue that can be resolved. Just let me know what I can do from this point.

Thank you so much!

What unit did you use this with? For instance Unit 1 Tales of the Heart. Do you have lesson plans that you would be willing to sale also?

Thanks,

Hi MB,
I am not sure what you mean by what unit did I use this with? Are you talking about the Bill Gates' maps? If so, we do not use those. Our district has mapped out the standards per nine weeks and the teachers choose how they want to go about teaching the standards. I can't remember which unit it was that taught myths, but it was either 5 ot 6 if you are trying to use those. As far as lesson plans go, I am not sure when you purchased the unit, but I added a lesson plan outline at the end of the unit just last weekend. Does your unit contain those? If not, you can download the updated version of the unit under the my purchases tab. If you download the updated unit and still have questions, please email me at nicoleshelby@hotmail.com and I will be glad to answer your questions.

Thanks so much!
