This packet includes several literacy activities for a kindergarten classroom with a Groundhog Day theme!!
The first activities focus on the -og word family, in honor of the groundhog. These are independent practice activities that could be used as morning work, classwork, homework, or during literacy centers/stations/Working with Words during Daily 5.
On the first page, students read -og words and match them to the correct pictures; they also cut out letters and build words from the -og word family. On another page, they write words from the -og word family and then choose one word to write a sentence about. There is also a page where students cut out letters to make the word groundhog!
In addition to the -og word family activities, there are also reading activities related to Groundhog Day. There is a little book about Groundhog Day for students to read; students cut apart the pages and staple together to create a little book. There is also a full-page version of this book for shared reading. It can be printed or projected for whole group instruction.
These activities will allow you to celebrate Groundhog Day, while still working on important literacy skills.

I thought the way I understood the story, if he sees his shadow, he gets scared and goes underground for 6 more weeks of spring. I know it doesn't make sense, but that is the way I have heard it.
