Can you show a preview? It is always nice to see what is included to get a sense of what it has to offer.

Would this be useful in a kindergarten class?

Yes, it is good for all levels. It teaches you how to set up guided reading and has resources for simple to complex word work.

Erica,
I noticed that the parent letter on page 90 states 103 sight words, and then refers to 102 sight words. Any chance it can be corrected? Thanks!

Hi Erica, I have a question about the parent letter explaining the 103 sight words. In the opening of the letter you say there are 103 sight words but later you add that the 102 sight words can not be sounded out. There is only one word that can be sounded out? I just wanted to make sure before I send the letter home. Thanks so much!!

Hi Erica,

I am a new kindergarten teacher and will be starting Guided Reading next week. I have several real readers in my class. This is a 1/2 day kindergarten so I don't have alot of time. I will be meeting with each group probably once every other week. Do you think this item is to advanced for my class given the age and the limited time?

I think any guided reading you do in your class could help. Most Kindergarten teachers do not teach guided reading, so even your little bit will help. My suggestion is to model the reading strategies whole class using big books when you do shared reading. Use post-its to cover words and have the students use the picture clue to figure out the word. Then reveal the first letter of the word and ask the students if they still think their predictions are correct. Then finally reveal the whole word. This models using the first letter, using the picture clue, and asking if it makes sense. As the year progresses, you will find it easier for them to work independently on activities and you will be able to pull more often for guided reading.
