These Guided Reading Response Sheets were created with input from my second grade class after a discussion on what they were learning and how they were learning it. Several students remarked that they don't remember what skill they need to work on and asked for a tool to help with this. There are 4 different forms (which very slightly, but with important differences)available in this download. These forms were designed to be used independently in guided reading during the 'whisper reading' phase of the lesson. I am learning that these forms are a great documentation tool--the beauty of it is that it does not take time away from my instruction other than the 10 or so minutes spent discussing the information on the forms every Friday in whole group.
Skills included: author, illustrator, making judgments, text connections, embedding language awareness, fluency, word sorts, previewing, and predictions.
I know self-evaluating is a big part of standards-based classrooms and Common Core. I look forward to trying these this year to see how my students handle them so that I will be ready next year. Thanks!
