These guided reading "thinkmarks" can be used during small-group Guided Reading sessions or during Independent Reading. Personally, I use them during Guided Reading in order to give students a purpose for reading. make about six copies of each thinkmark, laminate them and set them in the middle of the table during Guided Reading. As we read, students can put an appropriate thinkmark into their book. Later on during the Guided Reading session, we discuss what connections students made, or if they saw evidence of new learning, confusing ideas, or questions that they may have.
By using these during Guided Reading, I have found that students are more motivated to look beyond the words and look for more deeper meaning. Student engagement during Guided Reading also improves.

These are fantastic. I have been struggling for awhile now with how to effectively run my Guided Reading groups, and which areas of the text to discuss with the students. On January 5, I wrote and asked if the text could be all manuscript. You responded quickly that you would gladly make this adjustment and I see that it is now available. THANKS! Unfortunately, only the original version, which uses cursive, is accessible on my purchased files. Any suggestions?
