This is an updated modified newly designed version of my first Hatchet packet. It includes many more activities and has a new look!
The self explanatory student worksheets can be completed independently, in pairs, in guided reading groups or literature circles. Worksheets include: plot, setting, characters, connections, essays, reflections, thought provoking questions, response to text, and themes,differentiated activities that include student contests for writing raps, poetry. There are vocabulary words and questions for each chapter Great survival websites for kids are also included. A student check list helps kids keep track of the sheets they complete.

This was a very general unit. There weren't very many activities that were specific to Hatchet. It was more of a packet that could be used for any novel, but the title Hatchet was on the worksheets.

I'm sorry you feel that way. This is one of my most popular products. My colleagues love these worksheets because it saves them time. Ready made worksheets are important these days due to the amount of added work that teachers have. The worksheets are designed to be used by kids in small groups. They brainstorm and work collaboratively to determine the best answers using the strategies they've learned. They are also required to justify their answers by supporting them with facts from the novel.

No, the student sheets are best to be used with small groups of students who brainstorm for what they think are the best answers. I then discuss their answers with the small and whole groups and have them decide which are best. They're required to back up their answers with evidence from the book. It's a great learning experience for them! Hatchet is one of my best selling novel packets. Thanks for asking!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I've been an elementary and middle school teacher for over 25 years in Connecticut. I also served on the Weekly Reader National Teacher Advisory Board as the Connecticut State Rep and appeared on "Good Morning, America" in 1993, to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Weekly Reader. I worked closely with the other state representatives and Weekly Reader's editorial, graphic arts and marketing departments. I was a NASA/Lockheed Martin Mission Systems "Student Signatures in Space" teacher for ten years. My students, Board of Ed, staff and others signed NASA posters that accompanied astronauts during space missions aboard the space shuttles. One of the posters was signed by all students in our school, teachers, parents and the Board of Ed. It returned from space, and was hung in the school's Media Center.
