Still buys into the outdated, over-simplistic fallacy that haiku written in translation (not Japanese) must still follow the 5-7-5 syllable count. This would be more appropriate for elementary, but not for secondary students.
Lisa - Thanks for your feedback. Yes, the activities are geared toward the more traditional version we teach our students in the US. While I'm aware of the modern haiku form, my product must be geared toward what we traditionally teach. Afterall, this is a business and my products must be appropriate for my target audience. In regards to the grade-level comment, if you view my profile, you will see that I teach Intensive Reading with ESOL students. This item would be completely appropriate for them in the 7th grade. I wanted to include the middle school level for those teachers who may be in the same situation as I. It's very difficult to find age-appropriate materials for below grade-level learners. Maybe some day I'll create a haiku package for grades 7-12 that goes more into the artistic forms of haiku. Thanks for the idea! Great resource! Thanks for sharing! The rubric is great. Easy to use.

Even though I teach 2nd grade I do a poetry project at the end of each year just before Open House. I always do a section on Haiku. Thanks for extra pieces to enrich what I already have!
I love teaching Haiku; great work!

Wow! A way to write Haiku with scaffolding. Kids really have a hard time just writing off the top of their heads and this really gets them into the process, thank you!
