(Note: this game does NOT require a SmartBoard.)

News Alert! Hangman has escaped in a daring helium balloon stunt! A small red bird is believed to be his accomplice! Any persons with information about these fugitives is asked to contact authorities. They are believed to be unarmed and not very dangerous at all!

If you think traditional hangman is fun but a little too morbid, try this PowerPoint balloon escape game that plays by the same rules as hangman. Your students will love the animations and sound effects. You'll love the flexible and fun way to review spelling or key words from any subject.

This is an interactive, teacher-led game that plays just like traditional "hangman," but instead of drawing a little man on a gallows, you pop balloons until the kids guess the word or run out of chances.

Computer Requirements
Windows PC: Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 and above
Apple: Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 and above

This game can be used with any word of your choice. It's full of fun animations, sound effects, and music. During game-play, the clouds and airplane move across the sky. Balloons "pop" when clicked. If all the balloons are popped, hangman falls through the sky until his parachute deploys and drifts gently down.

Here's how it works.

1. Choose your word and count the letters.
2. Go to the slide for that number of letters. Make sure the kids can not see what you are doing. Type the word in, one letter in each box.
3. Start the show (F5) - After you start the show, the word will be invisible. It is safe to let the kids see the screen.
4. For every guess, click the corresponding letter in the letters used section.
-If the guess is wrong, pop a balloon.
-If the guess is correct, click the corresponding box to reveal the letter(s).
5. If the kids figure out the word, reveal all the letters, then click the man to go to the You Win slide.
6. If the kids do not figure it out, and they run out of balloons, click the light blue balloon last. The show will go to the Oh No slide. After 6 seconds, it will go to the Try Again slide automatically.

This game can be played with any subject area. I use it with my art classes to review vocabulary. It's great for those times at the end of the class when the lesson is over but there are still a few minutes before the bell rings.

I think I'm confused about this. I thought there was a smartboard file connected with it. I'm new to my Promethean board so that may be the problem but I can't figure out how to use it on the board. Please advise. Thanks. Sorry.

Hi! A SmartBoard and Promethean board aren't the same. It might be possible to play the game on a Promethean but I'm not sure. One of my colleagues has one. I'll ask her to give it a try tomorrow.

I LOVE THIS...I think this is great and love the idea SO MUCH. I've actually adapted it so I can do an entire spelling list without having to go back to my computer (just added hyperlinks on winning/losing slides).

I was reading over your terms & do not want to send this out to others, but can I make activities using it to sell? Do I need to purchase a "license" for this? I was reading through your info & didn't see anything. Thanks!

I'm certainly open the idea. It might be lucrative for both of us. I would have to see what you mean. Can you email one of your activities that used the HHPSG to me?
