Theses word searches, with keys, were made from the vocabulary in the Harcourt Horizons: United States History text. It includes the geography terms, atlas and introduction, and 18 chapters. I've also included a list of suggestions on how to use them.

Hi Terri,
I will be teaching SS for the first time this coming year. I will be using Horizons Harcourt United States History. Your materials on TPT look very helpful. Do you include the answers with the study guides?? I understand the vocabulary flashcards that our included in the manuel. I will have 40 students and really don't want to make individual sets of the words. I was planning on typing out all the voc for each chapter and go from there. It seems like a lot of material and time could be better spent not writing out voc. I was wondering if you did that?

The questions on the study guides were taken from the tests themselves - just not in multiple choice, matching, etc. form. So if you were to check them or go over them with the class, which I did not (I just gave extra points on the test if the student completed it), use the test keys.
As for the vocab, I used the Match Games occasionally for chapters and units for review/study. The vocab quizes that I made also only go to chapter 7, but it is a start.
My students were usually responsible for copying the vocab words and definitions in a SS journal. They usually started a chapter right after a chapter test was completed since they all finished at different times and it gave them something to do; using their own time later to finish. 12 years at Benton Harbor Area Schools, Benton Harbor, MI; taught 7th and 8th grade math; taught all subjects to 4th, 5th, & 6th graders in a self-contained Montessori classroom that later developed into three team-teachers teaching in a departmentalized fashion with my responsibilities being science (using Scott Foresman texts) for all three grade levels and social studies (using Harcourt Horizons: United States History text) for 5th grade; I have a middle school math endorsement (math and science are my passion!); continued to increase student MEAP scores in science; participated on curriculum writing for the district for many years; participated on Science Olympiad commities including student participation and school event......are we to give a resume here??? :)
