Harrison Bergeron is an excellent short story to introduce students to a dystopian/utopian society. It can be used in conjunction with novels such as Orwell's 1984 or Animal Farm to give students another view of the type of society being illustrated in those novels.
This short story unit contains the following: a summary of the short story, vocabulary terms with definitions, pre/post reading questions, discussion points from the story, a during reading activity, extension activity suggestions, and a bank of test questions about the story. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I taught for nine years in public schools, and also taught at the junior college level for one year. I have taught a variety of levels, from remedial reading to gifted. I am a history buff, so my students read a lot of primary sources in my class. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in literacy studies.
All science materials are written by my husband, a science teacher with ten years experience working with multiple grade levels. His classroom games series is a great way to integrate some fun and competition or collaboration into your science lessons.
