Science Readers are leveled readers based on the National Science Standards. The readers are designed to help teachers encourage effective reading skills while teaching key science concepts. Each book in the series reflects one specific National Science Content Standard.
This series is ideal for adding non-fiction content to Guided Reading programs. The books can also be used as supplementary Science Readers. Reading levels are primarily at the early fluent level to maximize usability. The series offers strong cross-curricular connections between Science and Language Arts, as well as other content areas.
Illustrations are colorful and kid-friendly. Characters are gender balanced (half are boys, half are girls), all races and cultures are represented in each book, and care has been taken to avoid social and gender stereotypes. Most importantly, the colorful illustrations are lots of fun!
How It Works
There are currently 18 books in the series covering Life, Earth and Physical Science. Six additional titles are currently in development. Each student book has a companion Science Guide and Literacy Guide for teachers. The Science Guide is used when the Readers are used as a supplemental science reader (target audience: 1st through 6th grades). The Literacy Guide is designed for use in Guided Reading settings (target audience: 1st through 3rd grades).
